This year many commemorations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s life and legacy are available to participate in online.

Downloadable Video

The SALT project has made available to congregations a free film for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, pulling together evocative moments of archival footage from the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

From their webpage:

No doubt Dr. King would want us to remember and celebrate all the people who made the march possible —inspiring us more than half a century later to keep working, marching, and fighting for jobs, freedom, equal rights, liberation, inclusivity, and a world in which Black lives truly matter.

You can download the video here and share it far and wide: in worship, on social media, on your website, with your family and friends. Let freedom ring!

Events Hosted by Churches Online

St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church has a schedule of events that spans the weekend.

The Metro DC Synod (ELCA) and African Descent Lutheran Association are also hosting online public reading of Dr. King’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail” on Facebook and YouTube at this link.

Your Turn

Consider downloading and adding the SALT project’s video to your Sunday morning worship via a recorded service or livestream. What other events are you engaging in, personally or with a congregation to honor and celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. this weekend?
