Have you tried leading from the extremes – hiding your true thoughts and emotions in order to keep the peace, then over-reacting to relatively small issues or problems at other points? We probably all have. Frequently, the problem is a disconnect in our values.

When we’re separated from our values – even unconsciously – we become separate from ourselves. It takes courage to live and lead authentically.

That kind of integration takes courage. It isn’t built overnight, but it can start now by taking part in one of our upcoming Dare to Lead trainings. This popular program, open to faith leaders of all kinds, is back this year with enrollment options in the spring and fall to best fit your schedule.

Upon completing the training, you will be Dare to Lead Trained, allowing you with to bring Brené Brown’s research to your faith community.

Session Breakdown

Session 1

The Heart of Daring Leadership

The four skill sets to be learned will be introduced (rumbling with vulnerability, living into our values, braving trust, and learning to rise), along with how we differentiate “armored leadership” from “daring leadership.” You’ll also delve into emotional literacy and self-awareness.

Session 2

The Myths of Vulnerability

The following day, you’ll spend more time exploring vulnerability – including the myths associated with it. This will lead naturally to a discussion around shame and how to recognize the ways in which it (along with scarcity and comparison) shows up in the workplace.

Session 3

Empathy and Self-Compassion

In the third session, you and your learning cohort will begin to break down the components of empathy as well as recognize the common barriers to it. You will also revisit the ideas you learned around daring leadership (as opposed to an armored approach), even as you learn how values operate in your professional life.

Session 4

Grounded Confidence and Rumbling Skills

The next day, it’s time to explore how curiosity can be practiced as a way of developing grounded confidence. With that kind of confidence as a launching pad, you’ll begin learning the skills that make tough conversations (including giving and receiving feedback) possible.

Session 5

Braving Trust

In order to build meaningful connections, trust has to be foundational. Throughout this session, you’ll learn the elements of trust, including boundaries, reliability, accountability, being a vault, integrity, non-judgment, and generosity. You’ll also learn to rise by understanding the power of stories – the ones we tell about ourselves and others.

Session 6

The Rumble and the Revolution

In this final session, you’ll learn how to identify patterns of over/under-functioning in others, gain a better understanding of how writing helps make meaning of your experiences, and synthesize key insights. You’ll also determine an integration plan for daring to lead in your professional life, and how to take action.
