Our hybrid model combines 9 hours of interactive online learning, a 2-day retreat in Houston, Texas, on March 16 and 17, and personal mentoring to equip you for confident, clarity-driven leadership in your ministry.

Your registration fee includes an in-person gathering in Houston Texas in which housing and meals are covered. Travel costs to the gathering are not included.

Get to Know Your Instructor

Dwight Zscheile

The Rev. Dr. Dwight Zscheile is professor of congregational mission and leadership at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota.

He is the author of Embracing the Mixed Ecology (with Blair Pogue, Seabury Books, 2025), Leading Faithful Innovation: Following God into a Hopeful Future (with Michael Binder and Tessa Pinkstaff, Fortress 2023), Participating in God’s Mission: A Theological Missiology for the U.S. (with Craig Van Gelder, Eerdmans 2018), The Agile Church: Spirit-Led Innovation in an Uncertain Age (Morehouse Publishing, 2014), People of the Way: Renewing Episcopal Identity (Morehouse Publishing, 2012) and The Missional Church in Perspective: Mapping Trends and Shaping the Conversation (with Craig Van Gelder, Baker Academic 2011), editor of Cultivating Sent Communities: Missional Spiritual Formation (Eerdmans, 2012), and co-editor (with Ed Olsworth-Peter) of The Starter’s Way: Leading New Contextual Christian Communities (Church Publishing, 2025).

A graduate of Stanford University (B.A.), Yale University (M.Div.), and Luther Seminary (Ph.D., Congregational Mission and Leadership), Dwight previously served congregations in Minnesota, Virginia, and Connecticut. Dwight’s experience growing up in a secular home in California has shaped his commitment to helping the church cultivate Christian community with neighbors in today’s changing world.

Dave Male

Dave Male is the Co-Director of Vision and Strategy for the Church of England and Visiting Instructor, Luther Seminary. He leads a team that helps churches, dioceses, and networks implement the strategy. One part of the strategy is the creation of 10,000 new worshipping communities over the next 10 years. Previously, he served as the Church of England’s National Adviser for Pioneer Development, developing national leadership pathways for those starting new churches, and was before that, Tutor in Pioneer Mission Training at Ridley Hall and Westcott House, Cambridge, creating the first training pathway for those starting new churches. Dave led one of the first fresh expressions in the UK and has trained and equipped many others to do the same. He has authored several books on evangelism and pioneering issues and spoken on these issues across the world.

Is the in-person retreat included in the cost?

Yes, the housing and meals for the retreat are included. Travel to and from the retreat is not included in the registration fee.

 

What’s the time commitment?

This is a 12-month learning community with a 2-day in-person residential and six bi-monthly 90-minute online meetings with Dave Male and Dwight Zscheile.
