As congregations continue to weigh the hows and whys of offering some type of in-person worship, the already complicated call of being a pastor becomes ever more complex. This is a time when decision-making fatigue may be at its peak, or perhaps you have hit multiple peaks from all of the meetings, phone calls, and new types of work you have to do. After months of uncertainty and constant change, you may have picked up any number of new things like new worries, ideas, habits, and ways of doing things.
What are you carrying?
Let’s journal through what is going on right now in our lives as pastors.
Take a deep breath.
Journaling Journey
What are you carrying?
For each thing you list, ask yourself, “Is this mine to carry?”
Now, what do I need to let go of?
What is God giving me right now? For example, think about the fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control). What does it feel like the Holy Spirit is giving you right now? What would help you embrace this gift?
Be gentle on yourself in this process. At the end of your journal entry, write out a prayer that reflects where you are at. Be assured. God is with you.
