Here is another installation of leadership resources. This time we go to the “non-ministry” world and see what insights they can give us on leadership. Watch, read, reflect, and enjoy.

Harvard Business Review

Anything with Harvard in its name in it probably means high quality, and this certainly is true with regard to the Harvard Business School. The Harvard Business Review highlights key ideas and research in the area of leadership. Most of their work does focus on business, but many of their leaders also work with government, education, and non-profit organizations. Check out these articles and videos:

Ted Talks

Leaders know about Ted Talks, short video segments on some particular topic. Some topics are very particular, but many are perspectives that can work for multiple purposes. Here are two that might be helpful for children, youth, and family ministry leaders:

Drew Dudley: Everyday Leadership

Rita Pierson: Every Kid Needs A Champion

Disney Institute

Some of you may not know about the Disney Institute, but it is a training arm of the Disney dynasty. Yes, as you might imagine, its specialty is innovation and excellence. While its approach to leadership may have differences from a ministry approach to leadership, there is much to learn from their perspective. Here’s one of their latest blog posts:

Three Questions on Leadership Effectiveness — blog post.

YouTube

And one random video. YouTube is also a great resource to check out. There are some great leadership videos, but there are also some “random” ones which might spark good discussion among your leadership teams, like this one I found last weekend. Watch it, and think of the creative possibilities in our lives:
