Today a member of the Faith+Lead Learning Lab shares a book recommendation.
“I’m reading Andy Root’s The End of Youth Ministry?. I’m taken with his assertion that the aim of youth ministry is joy, as distinct from happiness. Happiness is commonly conceived to be an indicator of safety, as in a safe environment for youth to curate a recognized identity. Joy, by contrast, arises from an honest reckoning with circumstances of negation and death where God raises us to new life. This is a helpful focus for an uncertain and unsafe time like this.”
– Michael Ostrom, pastor at Luther House Campus Ministry at Oregon State University
