Director of Advanced Theological Education

Dr. Hansen is director of Advanced Theological Education at Luther Seminary, where he is also the MLK Chair of Justice and Christian Community and professor of Theology and Global Christianity. Since 2020, he has been the Director of Confessional Studies for the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Argentina and Uruguay. 

Dr. Hansen was born in Argentina and earned his MDiv from the Instituto Universitario ISEDET, Buenos Aires. After earning his Ph.D. in the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, he taught systematic theology and Lutheran theology in Argentina and was active in the Lutheran World Federation. He has written numerous articles, essays, and book chapters and edited and authored several books, including Nuestra Fe, published by Fortress Press in 2023. He has been teaching at Luther Seminary since 2008.

Dr. Hansen’s areas of theological concentration and expertise include Systematic Theology; Lutheran Theology, Theology of the Lutheran Confessions, Liberation Theology, Post-colonial Theologies; Ethics and Theology of Bonhoeffer; Theology and Culture/Society (concentration on Late-Modernity, Interculturality, Economics, Secularity); and Theology and Sciences (concentration in Cognitive Science and Evolution).
