Sample offertory prayers for September 2002

Sept. 1, 2002
Blessed God, you have called us to contribute to the needs of the saints and to extend hospitality to strangers. Hallow these gifts that they may be a blessing to many in your name. Amen.

Sept. 8, 2002
O God, we confess that we are part of a culture that seems numb to debt. It is hard to acknowledge our debt to you. We are so captured by our day-by-day activities that we find it hard to look at the long haul. We give these gifts in the prayer that our giving is helping us gain perspective on what is really important. Amen.

Sept. 15, 2002
O God, keep those of us who give a lot of money this day from feeling proud of how much we give. Keep those of us who give little from dwelling on what we do not do. None of us will ever even the score with you. We thank you that you love us anyway. Lead us all into a life of sharing in the name of the one who shared his life for us and for all humanity. Amen.

Sept. 22, 2002
Blessed One, we pray that this offering honors you. We pray that the ways we earn money bring us no shame. We pray that the ways we spend money reflect what we claim is important. We pray that the ways we save and invest money are honorable. Grant us the strength to honor you with all we are and all we have as we send this money on in your name. Amen.

Sept. 29, 2002
O God, may our use of money reflect the values we claim to champion. Receive these gifts as a sign of our commitment to put our money where our mouth is. Amen.
